Barcos recovering from emergency appendectomy
SAO PAULO (AP) Palmeiras says Argentine striker Hernan Barcos is in good condition after undergoing an emergency appendectomy before the Brazilian Cup final against Coritiba.
Barcos was rushed to a hospital early Wednesday, and doctors pronounced the surgery successful.
Barcos missed the 2-0 first-leg win on Thursday, and was also ruled out of the second leg next week in Curitiba. He is expected to be sidelined for at least 15 days.
The former Liga de Quito forward was Palmeiras' top signing in 2012, and has scored 14 goals.
Palmeiras is Brazil's most successful club with eight national league titles, along with Santos. It is trying to win its first major trophy since the 1999 Copa Libertadores.
