Goffin rolls, gets Federer in semis

(TSX / STATS) -- David Goffin has earned a date with Roger Federer. That's never been a good thing for the Belgian.

Goffin will receive another chance to finally defeat the Swiss star in the semifinals of the ATP Finals after rolling to a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Austrian Dominic Thiem on Friday at the O2 in London.

The 72-minute victory over Thiem allowed Goffin to finish second in Group Pete Sampras play. Federer won Group Boris Becker and will be Goffin's opponent on Saturday.


Nadal WDs from ATP Finals after loss

(TSX / STATS) -- World No. 1 Rafael Nadal withdrew from the ATP Finals with a knee injury shortly after he was upset in his opening match by David Goffin on Monday in London.

Nadal, who has been dealing with tendinitis in his right knee, rallied before dropping a 7-6 (5), 6-7 (4), 6-4 decision to Goffin. (MORE)

Chung wins Next Gen for first ATP title

(TSX / STATS) -- South Korea's Hyeon Chung beat top seed Andrey Rublev of Russia 3-4 (5), 4-3 (2), 4-2, 4-2 in the inaugural Next Gen ATP Finals championship on Saturday in Milan, Italy.

The 21-year-old Chung, seeded sixth, became the first South Korean to win an ATP World Tour singles trophy since Hyung-Taik Lee won the 2003 Sydney title. (MORE)

Unusual rules tested at Next Gen Finals

(TSX / STATS) -- The first day of the Next Gen ATP Finals on indoor hardcourts in Milan, Italy, focused more on the unusual rules being used than the players who are competing.

Borna Coric, Hyeon Chung, Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev won the four matches played Tuesday in the eight-man tournament for players age 21 and under, but the scores will look unusual. (MORE)

(TSX / STATS) -- Seventh-seeded Julia Goerges knocked off No. 2 seed CoCo Vandeweghe 7-5, 6-1 on Sunday in the final of the WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai, China.

Goerges reeled off 11 of the last 12 games against her American opponent in a big-hitting affair to capture back-to-back titles for the first time in the German's career following her win at the Kremlin Cup in Moscow two weeks ago. (MORE)

American Sock wins Paris Masters

(TSX / STATS) -- American Jack Sock beat Serbian qualifier Filip Krajinovic 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 to win the Rolex Paris Masters title on Sunday, clinching the last spot in the season-ending ATP Tour finals.
