  • CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: Hamlin, 23, is the reigning world women's luge champion from Remsen, N.Y. She officially clinched her spot for the Vancouver Games by finishing fifth on Dec. 6 behind four Germans in a World Cup race. It'll be her second trip to the Olympics, after finishing 12th at the Turin Games in 2006. On Feb. 6, 2009, on her home track in Lake Placid, Hamlin not only became the first American woman to win the world championship, she snapped the Germans' 16-year reign in the event. Hamlin finished sixth in the overall World Cup standings in the 2008-09 season. She won U.S. junior women's singles titles in 2004 and 2005, then even surprised herself by qualifying for the 2006 Olympics. Hamlin was the national champion in 2008 and 2009. Hamlin is also a student at the State University of New York's Empire State College, where she is studying nutrition and health science.
