Chara returns to captain the Slovakian team in Sochi after also representing his country in 2006 and 2010. That is a familiar role for the towering defenseman who has captained the Boston Bruins since October 2006, leading them to the Stanley Cup in 2010-11. At 6-foot-9, Chara is the tallest player ever to play in the NHL and is the second European-born and trained captain to win the Stanley Cup. In his eighth season with the Bruins and 16th in the NHL after he was a third-round pick of the New York Islanders in 1996, Chara is a six-time All-Star and won the Norris Trophy as the league's best defenseman in 2008-09. He had a career-high 19 goals that season, finishing with 50 points. Widely considered to have the league's hardest shot, Chara has reached double digits in goals nine times with 13 this season and had a career-best 52 points in 2011-12. Since he was a minus-21 in his first season with the Bruins in 2006-07, Chara was a plus-136 the next six years. He speaks seven languages: Slovak, Czech, Polish, Swedish, Russian, German and English.
