After a disappointing Olympic debut in Vancouver, Stephen is hoping to rebound in Sochi. Stephen had a rough go at the 2010 Games, where she finished 49th in the 10-kilometer freestyle race and 57th in the 15k pursuit. She began her career as an Alpine skier before switching over to cross-country as a high school sophomore in 2002, and she appears to have made a wise choice. Coming into Russia, she is ranked 14th in the FIS distance standings and 15th overall - five spots behind superstar teammate Kikkan Randall and one ahead of Jessie Diggins. Stephen has posted two third-place finishes on the World Cup circuit, both of which came in the 4x5k relay. She came in fourth in that same event at the world championships last February, the highest finish ever by a U.S. women’s relay team. Stephen also brought home an eighth national championship last February, taking the gold in the 5k freestyle.
